Hearing aids for kids - Things to Consider

For the development of kids every single aspect is important and when it comes to hearing and speech it plays a role as an important tool for learning, playing and developing skills. At this stage, kids learn to imitate the sounds they hear but if they have hearing loss at this stage and it will be left undetected it results in delayed speech, social problem and academic difficulty.

Kids are fitted with behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids not depending on the amount of hearing loss. Especially for the kids, the BTE is made in a smaller size with a soft and plastic ear mold that can be easily fit well in the kid's delicate ear and they are easily replaceable.

Fitting of hearing aids

The earmold fitting should be made properly by the audiologist. When the hearing aid is programmed and activated for the first time, the child will hear the sound right away. After that verification will be done sounds are loud enough and comfortable for the kid. The battery replacement will be done after every 10 days.

Preventions

Parents should always keep an eye on the kid so that they will not pull out the hearing aid.
Parents should use special clips to attach to their clothes so that if there are pulled off they will not get lost.
When not in use should be kept away from any kind of heat.
Make sure the hearing aid and their molds are cleaned properly from time to time.
